Protect Your Lawful Status in Australia
Bridging visas allow people to remain lawfully in Australia while another visa, review or immigration process is being considered. Immilex helps clients understand which bridging visa applies, what it allows and what comes next.

Understanding Options for Bridging Visas
A bridging visa is a temporary visa that allows you to stay in Australia while your immigration status is being resolved. This typically occurs when you are waiting for a decision on a substantive visa application, appealing a refusal or cancellation, or making arrangements to depart the country. A bridging visa is not a "destination" visa; it is a legal safeguard.
At Immilex, we assess your current conditions and upcoming milestones to ensure you hold the correct bridging subclass, particularly regarding your rights to work and travel.

Bridging Visa Pathway
For staying lawful while you are waiting for a visa decision.
BVA, BVB, BVC & BVE
A dedicated bridging visa pathway for applicants who need lawful status in Australia while awaiting a substantive visa decision. Covers BVA, BVB, BVC and BVE subclasses.
Working while on BVs: Securing your Right to Work
For many individuals waiting for a visa decision, the inability to work is the single greatest source of stress. If your current bridging visa was granted with a "No Work" condition, it is not necessarily permanent. There is a specific process to request work rights based on your financial circumstances.
The Department of Home Affairs allows bridging visa holders to apply for work rights if they can demonstrate that they are experiencing genuine financial difficulty. This isn't just about having a low bank balance; it’s about meeting the legal test.
At Immilex, we assist in showing the department why being able to work is a necessity for your stay in Australia.
Strategic Status Review
Whether you need the right to work, the ability to travel, or a stable transition to your next visa, we ensure your legal right to stay in Australia is protected throughout the transition.
Evidence-Led Filing
We manage the preparation and lodgement of your application, focusing on the specific proof needed for work or travel rights to ensure a "decision-ready" file for the Department.
Proactive Compliance
We track your critical deadlines and manage all government correspondence to ensure you remain lawful and your long-term migration strategy stays on track.
A bridging visa is a temporary safeguard, but its conditions affect your long-term future. Contact Immilex for an assessment of your status and a plan to ensure your transition is secure and compliant.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can leave Australia, but your BVA will cease the moment you depart. To return, you must apply for a Bridging Visa B (BVB) and have it granted before you leave the country.
Your bridging visa will generally continue for 35 days after the refusal. If you lodge a review with the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) within the deadline, a new bridging visa will typically keep you lawful during the review.
Unlike a BVA, a BVC often comes with "No Work" conditions if your last visa did not permit work. We can assist in applying for a new BVC with work rights if you can prove financial hardship.
A BVE is a "Status Resolution" visa. While it keeps you lawful, holding a BVE can trigger specific exclusions (like the Section 48 bar) that limit the types of visas you can apply for while in Australia.
