Mastering SkillSelect: The Do's and Don'ts
SkillSelect is the Australian Government's online system where skilled workers express their interest in migrating. Submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) is not a visa application; it is a declaration of your skills and points score. You can only apply for a skilled visa (like the 189, 190, or 491) if the Department officially invites you.
EOI Non-Negotiables
To even enter the SkillSelect pool, you must meet absolute baseline requirements at the time of your invitation:
- Have a nominated occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list.
- Be under 45 years of age.
- Hold a positive skills assessment for your occupation.
- Have at least "Competent" English.
- Score a minimum of 65 points.
The 60-Day Trap
Once invited, a strict 60-day calendar window opens. You have exactly 60 days to submit your formal visa application. This timeframe cannot be extended.
⚠️ Critical Risk Alert:
You must legally prove every point claimed in your EOI. If you claimed points for a qualification or work experience that you cannot back up with airtight evidence, your application will face a swift adverse outcome. Overclaiming is the most common reason for failed skilled migration attempts.
EOI Expiry and Limits
An EOI remains active in the system for up to two years. However, if you receive two invitations and fail to lodge an application either time, your EOI is removed from the system. Rather than risking a wasted invitation, at Immilex, we map out and verify your entire evidence portfolio before you enter the SkillSelect pool, ensuring your claims are legally sound.
